The BLUES DEVILS are a four piece Blues band playing harp led jump & boogie blues.
Blues Devils - Biography
The Blues Devils have been together for 5 years and have built up a solid reputation in bars and clubs from the Aberdeen to Manchester and all stops in between! Their sharp suited appearance is matched their by their raw and aggressive Chicago Electric Blues style. Their live set features re-workings of both popular and lesser known blues standards mixed together with a number of original numbers that pay homage to their main musical influences which include T-Bone Walker, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lightning Hopkins, Freddy King, Howlin' Wolf and, Lester Butler.
Lead vocalist and harp player Kenny Boag has served his apprenticeship playing a number of different musical styles ranging from Rockabilly to folk. Although, blues has always been his number one passion his wide ranging experience has provided him with versatility in his harp playing that breathes new life into the blues standards that form the main part of the band's live set. As main song writer for the band, Kenny's has further developed the style and content of the live set with several original jump blues numbers.
Lead guitarist Bert Richard has been fronting blues bands for over 20 years and his hard edged style is a product both of his life long love affair with the Blues guitar and, a number of years spent listening to live blues in the pubs and clubs of Chicago ! Bert's irrepressible character and passion for the blues is immediately appreciable from his immense talent and infectious joy for playing live which often extends to him joining the occupants of the dance floor during his solos!
Bass player and second vocalist Dave Procter is a later convert to the Blues. However, his wide ranging experience has brought funk and soul influences that have strengthened and developed the band's sound and style. His bass playing frequently elevates from rhythm to produce a sound more akin to a second guitar including a number of crowd pleasing lead solos.
Drummer Jim Miller completes
the line-up. Like best mate Bert Richard, Jim is a life long follower of
the one true path that is the blues and so in a similar fashion, his particular
influences have further developed the band's style. Jim and Bert's long
friendship and musical partnership and Dave's funky bass has resulted in
an understanding that has moulded them into a solid rhythm section that
drives the Blues Devils' relentless sound.
